My names benny and on the 17 July 1975 I experienced the worst lesson of my life.
It was on a sunny Friday afternoon at Dutch street school when Mr Raymond our singing teacher walked into our classroom. Everyone was looking at the clock waiting for the long hand to striker 2:00. Mr Raymond said that do day he was going to test us on signing. Everyone froze no one moved I felt like making a run for the door but it was locked. Mr Raymond called two big girls called Ellen and Charlie they sang beautiful. Mr Raymond looked on his list and called benny I froze” I thought this was only for people who wanted to sing “ I said Mr Raymond gave me a stern look I knew what that meant just go up there. I saw some of my friends whispering to each other I didn't like that.
I was felt scared I thought if I make a mistake I will get in big trouble with Mr Raymond. My first words went will but then one mistake came out instead of saying Rae I said ray and Mr Raymond was furious he told me to turn around and took out his stick and smack me 10 times, I started to cry I ran out the classroom feeling worried that I would get into trouble for existing class early. Mr Raymond got fined 20,000$ for smacking me and I felt sorry. After that incident I went to Mr Raymond and apologized for making a mistake, but he said it was fine.
